Chelsea, Manchester United ready to test Brentford resolve with loan offer for Ivan Toney

Chelsea and Manchester United are reportedly ready to test the waters with a loan bid for Ivan Toney, even though he is valued at £60 million by Brentford.

According to a report by The Independent, Chelsea and Manchester United remain interested in signing Ivan Toney in the summer transfer window. The Brentford striker has a price tag of £60 million this summer. However, the two Premier League heavyweights are ready to test the Bees’ resolve by offering a loan deal for the English striker midway through the summer transfer window.

The Ivan Toney tale

Ivan Toney has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League since Brentford’s first-ever Premier League campaign. While controversy has followed the Englishman in the last 24 months, he has made his mark whenever he has stepped up on the field for the West London outfit.

The 28-year-old has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Brentford while chipping in with 72 goals and 23 assists. Those numbers reveal a well-rounded striker who can also make his mark with his creativity. However, Toney faces an uncertain future at Brentford after entering the final 12 months of his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. However, with Brentford not deviating from the price tag of £60 million, Ivan Toney’s suitors have not intensified their efforts to sign him in the summer transfer window. Nevertheless, Chelsea and Manchester United remain in the picture, with the duo eyeing a loan move with a purchase obligation clause for the England international.

Big loan move on the horizon?

Chelsea’s interest in Ivan Toney is understandable. The Blues have been keen on signing multiple strikers in the summer transfer window after Nicolas Jackson blew hot and cold last season. Samu Omorodion was Chelsea’s top target before the move broke down. Toney is thus a viable target for the West London club.

As for Manchester United, they want to complete their offensive department by signing Toney, who can add a new dimension to their attack. In addition, the English striker has been keen on joining Manchester United. However, Chelsea and Manchester United do not want to meet Brentford’s valuation of £60 million.

Instead, the two Premier League heavyweights want to test Brentford’s resolve by offering a loan deal to sign the 28-year-old Englishman. It will be interesting to see how the Bees respond to proposals of a loan-to-buy move from Chelsea and Manchester United.
