Aston Villa are all set to table a €60 million bid to sign Atletico Madrid outcast Joao Felix before the end of the transfer window.
Aston Villa have been quite busy in the ongoing transfer window. While they have added a lot of quality to their squad, Unai Emery is still on signing another top-quality forward. He seeks more firepower on the flanks and according to a report from CaughtOffside, Villa are preparing to submit a €60 million offer for the Atletico Madrid forward.
Felix made quite a name for himself while coming up the ranks at Benfica and playing for their first team. His sensational rise resulted in a big-money move to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019. Unfortunately, the move hasn’t worked out for either party.
The Portuguese international has struggled to get going at the Madrid-based club and he doesn’t have the best of relations with their manager Diego Simeone. The 24-year-old has spent the last 18 months out on loan. While the short spell at Chelsea didn’t work out. He did revive himself with impressive performances at Barcelona last season.
The Catalan giants were quite interested in bringing him back to the club in the initial phase of the transfer window. But, they have shifted their attention towards other targets. While they have already added Dani Olmo to their squad, they are still working on a deal to sign Nico Williams. Felix seems to be a backup option at this stage.
Aston Villa make an offer for Joao Felix
While the player seems keen on a move to Barcelona, Aston Villa are looking to prise him away from Atletico Madrid. Unai Emery is looking to ensure he has enough firepower in their ranks to compete in all competitions. He feels a player like Felix could help them take the next step. His ability to feature anywhere in attack as well as a number ten is what attracts the Spanish manager.
Striking a deal with Atletico could be hard as the player still has five years left on his deal and they had forked out a fortune to bring him to the club. However, Villa have decided to test the Spanish club’s resolve by putting forward an offer worth around €60 million.
Emery is keen on making him one of the stars of his team and with Atletico looking to get him off their books, Villa will hope they are flexible with their demands. Recent reports have suggested the player could be open to return to England.
