Official: Chelsea complete Pedro Neto move

Pedro Neto has joined Chelsea from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £54 million, with the 24-year-old signing a seven-year contract.

In an official statement on Chelsea’s website, the Blues have announced that they have signed Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 24-year-old has signed a seven-year contract with the West London club running until June 30, 2031. Chelsea presented the winger in front of the Stamford Bridge faithful on Sunday.

Neto expressed his delight after completing the move, reportedly costing Chelsea £54 million. The Portuguese international said, “I feel really grateful to have joined this club. I have worked really hard in my career to be here and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this shirt.”

The Pedro Neto story

Pedro Neto has been one of the best young wingers in the Premier League since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers from Lazio in August 2019. The 24-year-old struggled with fitness issues throughout his spell with the Black Country outfit but made his mark whenever he took the pitch for them.

The Portuguese international was in his element in the 2023/24 season, as he contributed to 14 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net three times and providing 11 assists. So, it is hardly surprising that several high-profile clubs mulled over securing Pedro Neto’s services in the summer transfer window.

Neto set for his next adventure

Recent reports have linked Pedro Neto with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur. However, Chelsea swooped in earlier this week and blew the competition away by quickly sealing the deal to sign him from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The latest update by BBC has revealed an agreement on a package worth £54 million.

Chelsea will cough up a base fee worth £51.3 million, with the remaining sum being add-ons. While the West London club’s links with the Portuguese international are baffling, he can upstage the underperforming trifecta of Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Noni Madueke.

Recent reports have linked Madueke and Sterling with moves away from Stamford Bridge. As for Neto, it will be interesting to see if the 24-year-old winger can step up and become one of the best players in the Premier League at Chelsea.
