Newcastle United fail with €15 million bid for Ferran Torres, could return with improved offer

Barcelona have rejected Newcastle United’s €15 million offer for Ferran Torres, the Magpies could return with a revised offer.

Newcastle United are keen on reinforcing their attack before the end of the transfer window and they have their eyes on Barcelona winger Ferran Torres. According to a report from Fichajes, the Magpies’ initial offer worth €15 million plus add-ons has been turned down by the Catalan giants. But, they retain interest in the Spanish attacker and could return with an improved offer.

Torres joined the Spanish giants in the winter of 2022. They forked out €55 million to prise him away from Manchester City. While he was expected to be one of their stars going forward, the 24-year-old winger hasn’t really reached the expected heights.

Barcelona ready to sell Torres?

While he has been an important squad player and still has three years on his deal with the club, his future has become a big talking point following the arrival of Hansi Flick. The new Barcelona manager doesn’t consider the Spanish international to be an important part of his plans.

As a result, the Catalan giants are ready to cash in on the versatile forward who can feature anywhere in attack. Given the club’s financial situation, Torres’ departure will help them raise much-needed funds which could help them push for new signings.

They want €30 million from his services as they look to recoup a part of what they had invested to bring him to the club. There is a significant amount of interest in his services from Newcastle United. Eddie Howe is keen on adding more firepower to his attack and he feels the former Manchester City forward could be a great addition to their ranks.

Newcastle’s initial offer rejected

His versatility could come into great use. Not only will he add depth to the flanks, the 24-year-old could even cover for Alexander Isak when needed. While the Magpies did consider the idea of signing Raphinha, they consider Torres to be a more financially viable option.

While they did submit an initial offer worth €15 million plus variables, Barcelona have rejected their bid as they considered it insufficient. However, the Magpies haven’t given up on the chase. They remain interested in the Spanish winger’s signature and could return with an improved offer.
