Matthijs de Ligt set to complete €50 million Manchester United move

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have reached a full agreement with Bayern Munich for the signing of Matthijs de Ligt.

Manchester United have been working hard to secure the services of Matthijs de Ligt for a while now. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have finally reached a full agreement with Bayern Munich to bring the Dutch centre-back to Old Trafford.

De Ligt made a name for himself at Ajax, he led the Dutch club to the semi-finals of the Champions League back in the day. He then made a big money move to Juventus. While he did taste a lot of success with the Old Lady, he never really reached the expected levels.

He has been a part of the Bayern Munich setup for the last two seasons. While he has done a decent job at the back, the German giants are not convinced by his performances and they consider him surplus to requirements. The former Ajax skipper still has three years left on him but since Vincent Kompany doesn’t count on him, the club have been looking to offload him.

Manchester United want De Ligt

Manchester United are the ones who have been working hard to secure his services. The Red Devils want to reinforce their backline after having struggled last season because of injuries to key defenders. While they have already signed Leny Yoro, they need a more experienced campaigner who can help cope with the departure of Raphael Varane.

Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of the Dutch centre-back and wants to re-unite with De Ligt who was one of the stars under him during his time at Ajax. The United boss believes he could be just what United need to bolster their defence.

United strike a deal for De Ligt, full agreement in place

The player is also keen on working under Ten Hag and has his heart set on a move to United. He has already agreed personal terms and has been waiting for the clubs to reach a common ground.

While the German giants were holding out on their €50 million demand, they have finally accepted the Red Devils’ condition to go ahead with a package of €50 million with €45 million as a fixed fee along with another €5 million as add-ons. The payment will be spread over three years.

De Ligt will be penning down a five-year deal with an option for another 12 months once he is authorized to travel to England and undergo his medical with his new club.
