Liverpool open to Wataru Endo sale if they sign a replacement

Liverpool might entertain the possibility of parting ways with 2023 summer signing Wataru Endo after only one year if they land a replacement.

According to a report by Football Insider, Wataru Endo might not have a long-term future as a Liverpool player. While the Reds have recently rejected a bid from Marseille for the Japanese international, they are open to parting ways with him before the summer transfer window shuts down. However, a departure will only see the light of day if they sign a replacement.

Wataru Endo and his Liverpool journey so far

Wataru Endo has been a top-notch addition to the Liverpool midfield since arriving from VfB Stuttgart last summer. A native of Yokohama, Kanagawa, he spent his formative years in Japan, starting his youth career in his hometown before graduating from the youth division at Shonan Bellmare.

Endo’s first adventure in Europe came with Sint-Truiden before VfB Stuttgart came calling. The 31-year-old went from strength to strength at the Bundesliga outfit and served the team as the club captain. Liverpool signed the experienced midfielder last summer, and he was a dependable performer for the Merseyside giants.

The Japanese international has turned out 43 times thus far for Liverpool while chipping in with two goals and one assist. Wataru Endo’s exploits for Liverpool have not gone unnoticed, alerting several well-known clubs, including Marseille. And the Ligue 1 giants have already failed with a bid to sign him in the summer transfer window.

Will Liverpool sell Endo?

Recent reports claimed that Liverpool would not part ways with Wataru Endo in the summer transfer window. That stance made sense, considering the Merseyside outfit already needed to replace Thiago Alcantara, who had called time on his spell with them several weeks ago.

However, the latest update has revealed that the Reds are open to cashing in on their 2023 summer signing if they can land a replacement. With Liverpool in talks to sign Martin Zubimendi, the Spanish international might be the missing piece to unlock Wataru Endo’s departure.

It will be interesting to see if the Reds entertain offers to part ways with the 31-year-old in the summer transfer window. However, the stance does not make sense, considering Endo’s performance last season and his leadership ability.
