Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in signing 25-year-old Chelsea utility man Trevoh Chalobah before the summer transfer window shuts down.
According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, Trevoh Chalobah does not have a future at Chelsea. The Blues have barred him from using the club’s first-team facilities as they look to expedite his departure from Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are interested in the 25-year-old utility man.
The Trevoh Chalobah tale
Trevoh Chalobah has endured a topsy-turvy ride since breaking into the first-team squad at Chelsea a few years ago. Thomas Tuchel brought the best out of the Englishman and used him most frequently. However, his stock has steadily fallen since the German tactician’s departure nearly two years ago.
The 25-year-old has been a dependable performer for Chelsea, with his ability to reprise different roles in the midfield and defence standing him in good stead. Chalobah has turned out 80 times thus far for Chelsea while chipping in with five goals and one assist. However, he has played his final game for Chelsea, with the West London club keen on cashing in on him in the summer transfer window.
The Blues have continued their hoarding this summer. However, to balance their books, they must sell a few players and have treated their academy graduates with utmost disrespect. Chelsea already banished Conor Gallagher from the first-team picture, with Chalobah also receiving the same treatment. Meanwhile, he does not have a shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace interested.
What next?
Aston Villa’s interest in Trevoh Chalobah is understandable. The Villans have been keen on signing a versatile defender in the summer transfer window, with Lutsharel Geertruida emerging as a top target. However, the Chelsea utility man brings the same qualities to the table due to his ability to play as a centre-back, a right-back, and a holding midfielder.
As for Crystal Palace, the Eagles are interested in bolstering their backline with a centre-back and a right-back. While they want the former amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Marc Guehi, Chalobah can also be an alternative to Daniel Munoz in the right-back berth.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Chelsea utility man recently made peace with the idea of leaving Chelsea in the summer transfer window. With the West London club forcing him out of Stamford Bridge, it will be interesting to see where he lands this summer amid his links with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.
