At the start of the transfer window, Ange Postecoglou made it clear that he wanted to improve his attacking options. The Australian certainly wanted a new striker in his system, which would allow him to move Son Heung-min back to the left wing.
More importantly, Postecoglou did not want to rely on Richarlison to lead the line despite the Brazilian’s decent performances last season. What the manager wanted was a proven Premier League striker, and they have landed their desired target.
After some deliberation about choosing between Ivan Toney and Dominic Solanke, Tottenham have chosen the latter and now have an agreement in place with Bournemouth. Spurs will pay a club-record £65 million fee, including add-ons, to sign the Cherries man.

Richarlison future in doubt?
The arrival of Solanke does put Richarlison’s future in some doubt, although the Brazilian has no interest in leaving Tottenham. The striker had Saudi suitors lining up for him this summer, but he has reportedly made it clear that he does not want to scupper his career with the Brazilian national side to make money in the Middle East.
Hence, it will be up to Postecoglou to figure out a way to use Solanke and Richarlison ahead of the new season. Spurs are back in the Europa League, and that would see ample use of both strikers as the club enters a busy season ahead.
