Liverpool and Manchester United are looking to make a late move for the services of Crystal Palace sensation Adam Wharton.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool and Manchester United are plotting a raid on Crystal Palace for the services of Adam Wharton. The English midfield sensation has had an incredible rise over the last 12 months and both Premier League giants are looking to make a late move for him.
Wharton has been a part of the Blackburn youth setup since his early days. He came up the ranks at some pace and was promoted to the first team in the summer of 2022. His consistent performances for their senior team caught the attention of Crystal Palace who signed him at the start of the year.
Since moving to the Premier League club, the 20-year-old defensive midfielder’s career has taken off. He broke into the Eagles’ first team and managed to establish himself in no time. He was involved in 16 league games and even bagged three assists.
Wharton’s exceptional abilities and consistent performances helped him secure a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024. While there was a lot of talk about his future at the start of the transfer window, not much has been discussed of late.
Manchester United and Liverpool to push for Wharton?
Arsenal were one of the clubs linked with the youngster but they are no longer in the race with a focus on completing the signing of Mikel Merino. While the Gunners have taken a back seat, Manchester United and Liverpool retain their interest in the youngster and are keen on launching a late move for him.
With Casemiro’s future uncertain, the Red Devils want to bring in a young defensive midfielder. They want someone who can form a dependable partnership with Kobbie Mainoo and Wharton could be the right fit.
But, they will face stiff competition from Liverpool who are also keen on signing a new defensive midfielder. While they are already working on a deal to sign Martín Zubimendi, Wharton could still be a great addition as he can add depth and be a great acquisition for the long run.
While both English giants are plotting a late raid on the Eagles, it will be interesting to see if they will be open to his departure with quite a few of them linked with a move away from the club.
