Aston Villa considering Joe Gomez swoop

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are considering making a move for the services of Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez before the transfer deadline.

Aston Villa have already added a lot of quality to their squad as they prepare to compete in the UEFA Champions League. But, Unai Emery’s team are not looking to stop as of yet. They want to add more quality to their ranks and according to a report from HITC, Villa are interested in the services of Joe Gomez and are considering making a move for him.

Gomez came up the ranks at Charlton Athletic. He broke into their first team in the summer of 2014 and on the back of his impressive rise, the English centre-back secured a move to Liverpool in the next summer window. He has gone from strength to strength over the years and has played an important role in their first team.

The 27-year-old has featured in 224 matches for their first team helping them win quite a few titles. While he still has three years left on his deal and is an important part of Arne Slot’s plans moving ahead, Aston Villa are considering making a move for his services.

Aston Villa seek defensive reinforcement

Aston Villa have been quite busy throughout the transfer window. While they have done some excellent transfer business so far, Emery’s team are still looking to execute a few more transfers before the deadline. With Diego Carlos’s future at the club uncertain amidst interest from Fulham, Villa are preparing to sign a top-quality replacement.

They have their eyes set on Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida. Emery’s team have already opened talks to sign the 24-year-old Dutch international. The Spanish manager is always on the lookout for players who can feature in a variety of positions, and Geertruida is someone who can feature as a right-back, a centre-back as well as a defensive midfielder.

Unai Emery’s Villa keen on Joe Gomez

While they are pushing hard for his signature, Aston Villa also have their eyes on Liverpool star Joe Gomez. Emery is believed to be a big admirer of the 27-year-old who can feature anywhere across the backline and can even start as a defensive midfielder if needed.

His versatility is what attracts Aston Villa, and they are considering making a move for him. While the Liverpool defender could be a much cheaper alternative in comparison to Geertruida, Liverpool might not want to negotiate the departure of the 27-year-old, who remains important to their plans.
