West Ham United agree personal terms with Aaron Wan-Bissaka but the move for the Manchester United full-back has reached a standstill.
According to a report from HITC, West Ham United’s move for the services of Manchester United defensive star Aaron Wan-Bissaka stalls. The Hammers did manage to get a big breakthrough by agreeing on personal terms with the player but the year remaining on his deal at Old Trafford is causing problems.
Wan-Bissaka joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2019 after coming up the ranks and making a name for himself at Crystal Palace. While he has been an integral part of United’s first team, the 26-year-old full-back has fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.
Last season, he did feature in around 30 matches but the majority of those appearances came because of injuries to key players at the back. With just a year left on his deal, United want to cash in on him, they do not want to let him leave for free. The Red Devils are ready to sell and they are already working hard to sign his replacement Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
With United ready to offload Wan-Bissaka, West Ham have been working hard to secure his services. The Hammers have already made significant additions to their squad following the arrival of Julen Lopetegui. The Spanish manager seeks more quality out wide on the right and the English full-back is their top target.
West Ham’s move for Wan-Bissaka stalls
The Hammers and United have been in negotiations for the full-back services for a long time now. Both clubs managed to agree on a deal that will see the Manchester-based club earn £15 million upfront with another £3 million in add-ons.
Following the agreement between the two English clubs, Wan-Bissaka has also agreed on personal terms to move to West Ham. But, the year remaining on his contract along with bonuses is causing problems.
The move has stalled because United wants the Hammers and the 26-year-old to share the cost of the outstanding fee, but Wan-Bissaka is demanding the full payment before leaving.
Both clubs are in talks with the player’s agent and they are hoping that an agreement can be reached for the move to go ahead. For now, Lopetegui’s team have started looking at alternatives with Girona’s Arnau Martinez and Kieran Trippier two names on their wishlist.
