Premier League club Bournemouth and Barcelona have reportedly advanced talks over a deal worth €10 million for 22-year-old Mexican international Julian Araujo.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Julian Araujo is the subject of interest from Bournemouth. The Cherries are keen on signing a right-back before the summer transfer window shuts down. The Barcelona prospect has thus emerged as a target for the Premier League outfit, with the two clubs advancing talks to land the 22-year-old.
Julian Araujo and his career so far
Julian Araujo has struggled to make his mark for Barcelona since arriving from LA Galaxy in January 2023. A native of Lompoc, California, he spent his formative years in the USA, passing through the academies at four institutions, including Barcelona’s American department.
However, Araujo graduated from the youth division at LA Galaxy before rising in prominence at the MLS club. Barcelona came calling in the winter transfer window of 2023 and assigned him to the reserve side for the second half of the 2022/23 season. The Blaugrana then loaned the 22-year-old to UD Las Palmas.
Araujo, who has chosen to represent Mexico internationally, turned out 28 times for Las Palmas while chipping in with two goals. However, the Mexican international does not have a long-term future at FC Barcelona amid the Catalan outfit’s desperate bid to re-sign Joao Cancelo. Meanwhile, the youngster might land in the Premier League, with Bournemouth vying for his signature.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Bournemouth’s interest in Julian Araujo is understandable. The Cherries have been keen on signing a right-back in the summer transfer window amid the advancing years of Adam Smith. With the Englishman on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career, it behoves the Premier League club to sign a right-back.
Araujo has thus emerged as a viable target for Bournemouth. The latest update has revealed that the Cherries have advanced talks to sign the Mexican international from Barcelona. The two parties are negotiating a permanent transfer, with the fee likely worth €10 million.
The Catalan giants want to include a sell-on clause in the deal to sell Araujo to Bournemouth. So, with negotiations between the two clubs continuing, it will be interesting to see how quickly the Premier League outfit can seal the agreement to land the 22-year-old prospect.
