Wolfsburg eyeing Sepp van den Berg move

Wolfsburg have entered the chase for Liverpool star Sepp van den Berg, who might prefer to return to the Bundesliga if he leaves the Merseysiders.

According to Kicker, Sepp van den Berg can add Wolfsburg to his list of suitors, as the Bundesliga side is angling to make a move for the defender. The 22-year-old Liverpool prospect has attracted plenty of attention, as his future at Anfield is still uncertain. He could push to play regularly, which may not be possible under Arne Slot.

Wolfsburg are keen on Sepp van den Berg

Sepp van den Berg was a regular fixture in Liverpool’s first few games under Arne Slot during the pre-season. The young defender played his part in an otherwise impressive Reds side during their tour of the US, and there’s some hope that he will get minutes at this rate in the coming season.

He did his chances no harm after a successful loan spell at Mainz last season; however, the presence of senior stars would have hindered his progress at Anfield. There’s no way that Arne Slot will make the 22-year-old Liverpool prospect a surprise inclusion in his lineups for next season over seasoned professionals like Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. In fact, he played so many games owing to the duo’s absence.

In search of regular first-team football, the 22-year-old Liverpool prospect could leave the club, although the Merseysiders have already rebuffed an offer from PSV Eindhoven. However, the defender would prefer a return to the Bundesliga, where he has plenty of suitors, including Hoffenheim and former side Mainz.

Wolfsburg are also keen now, with the Bundesliga side angling a move for Van den Berg, who does fit their style. Moreover, they are likely to view the 22-year-old Liverpool prospect as a replacement forMaxence Lacroix, who has entered the final year of their deal, but in their quest, they face plenty of competition.

Will Wolfsburg sign Van den Berg?

There are a lot of factors for Wolfsburg to consider before they make the move for Van den Berg. For starters, Liverpool reportedly wants around £20 million, as his performances during pre-season will have asserted their belief even stronger, as Wolfsburg might only be able to afford it if they manage to offload some other stars, which is a presumption.

Then, interest in the player from fellow Bundesliga sides could also be a factor. However, Mainz is only planning on another loan deal, something Liverpool may consider, while Hoffenheim could also push Wolfsburg in this particular chase for the defender.
