Fulham cool interest in Scott McTominay

Fulham have reportedly cooled their interest in Manchester United star Scott McTominay.

Fulham’s interest in Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay appears to have cooled, according to HITC. The London club had earmarked the 27-year-old as a potential replacement for Joao Palhinha, who recently transferred to Bayern Munich.

Fulham initially made a bid for McTominay last week, having earlier inquired about his availability during the summer. The proposed deal, valued at approximately £20 million, was promptly rejected by Manchester United. Despite ongoing negotiations, United held firm, seeking closer to £30 million for the Scotland international.

Marco Silva’s Admiration and Fulham’s Decision

Marco Silva, Fulham’s head coach, is a known admirer of McTominay and had urged the club to pursue the midfielder. However, despite Silva’s interest, Fulham have decided to abandon their pursuit and look for alternatives.

Manchester United’s initial stance was to retain McTominay. But financial pressures meant they were open to selling him to raise funds. Erik ten Hag, United’s manager, ideally wanted to keep McTominay at Old Trafford but understood the club’s need to generate cash from player sales.

McTominay’s Commitment to Manchester United

It has become clear that McTominay is not yet convinced about leaving Manchester United. The midfielder, praised as “fantastic” by former United star Dimitar Berbatov, is ready to fight for his place at Old Trafford despite interest from Fulham and Turkish clubs Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.

With Fulham now out of the race for McTominay, they remain on the lookout for a suitable replacement for Palhinha. Their decision to move on from McTominay indicates they are actively exploring other options to strengthen their midfield before the transfer window closes.

Fulham’s decision to walk away from McTominay makes sense given the financial constraints and the player’s apparent commitment to Manchester United. While McTominay would have been a strong addition to Fulham’s midfield, the club’s willingness to explore other targets shows their flexibility in recruitment. For Manchester United, retaining McTominay could provide stability in their midfield, especially if they do not find a better alternative.
