Tottenham Hotspur’s attacking sensation Alejo Veliz is reportedly all set to join Espanyol on a season-long loan.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Alejo Veliz is all set to join Espanyol for the 2024/25 season. The newly-promoted La Liga club have struck a deal with Tottenham to sign the Argentine sensation on a season-long loan. The North London club are signing all documents to complete the transfer.
Veliz came up the ranks at Rosario Central and made a name for himself while playing for their first team back in Argentina. His performances caught the attention of Tottenham, and they ended up signing him last summer.
While the 20-year-old did spend the first half of the 2023/24 season at his parent club, he hardly got any game time. He was sent out on loan to Sevilla for the second half. But even that did not work out. Since the youngster is not yet ready to have a big enough role at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou, they have been open to sending him out on loan.
The Argentine youth international is considered an important part of their long-term plans, and they want to ensure he gets enough minutes to continue his development. While there is significant interest in his services, the youngster is closing in on a return to Spain.
Alejo Veliz to join Espanyol
Things might not have gone according to plan at Sevilla. But he is now all set for a season-long spell with Espanyol, who are making a return to the Spanish top flight. They have managed to reach an agreement with the North London club to have him services for a season.
Veljiz is expected to have a significant amount of game time at the Spanish club, and it could do wonders for him. Tottenham consider it to be an ideal environment for the 20-year-old to gain first-team experience.
While financial details remain undisclosed, the transfer is expected to be finalised soon as Tottenham completes the final paperwork. It is a straightforward loan deal without a buy option. Veliz will return to his parent club next summer as the youngster is considered an important part of their plans moving ahead.
