Giorgi Mamardashvili is reportedly open to joining Liverpool, with the Merseyside club ready to loan him back to Valencia to secure an agreement this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet COPE, Giorgi Mamardashvili is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are scouring the market for a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Alisson Becker’s future. They are ready to loan the 23-year-old back to La Liga club Valencia to secure an agreement to land him. Meanwhile, the player is open to moving to Anfield.
The rise of Giorgi Mamardashvili
Giorgi Mamrdashvili has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga since joining Valencia from Dinamo Tbilisi. Los Che signed him on an initial loan deal in July 2021 before completing a permanent move six months later. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength at the Mestalla.
The 23-year-old has turned out 100 times thus far for Valencia while keeping 31 clean sheets and conceding 112 goals. In addition, Mamardashvili was one of the best goalkeepers at UEFA Euro 2024, playing his part as Georgia reached the knockout phase.
However, Mamardashvili faces an uncertain future at the Mestalla midway through the summer transfer window, with an exit possible. The Georgian international does not have a shortage of high-profile clubs pursuing his signature, with Liverpool among his prospective suitors.
Premier League beckons?
Liverpool’s interest in Giorgi Mamardashvili is understandable. The Reds are keen on signing a goalkeeper amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Alisson Becker. Widespread reports have linked the Brazilian international with many well-known clubs, especially in the Saudi Pro League.
While Alisson will unlikely leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window, he is on the wrong side of 30. So, the Merseyside club must lay down a succession plan for the 31-year-old, with Mamardashvili emerging as a viable target. And the Georgian international is open to joining Liverpool, with the Reds devising a plan to land him.
The report has suggested that the Premier League heavyweights are ready to loan the 23-year-old back to Valencia to beat Atletico Madrid to his signature. So, with Mamardashvili open to joining Liverpool, a deal might see the light of day, unless Los Rojiblancos can turn his head.
