West Ham United and Newcastle United are set to battle it out for Toulouse centre-back Logan Costa as the clubs continue searching for a defender.
According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, Logan Costa has sufficient Premier League interest, with West Ham United and Newcastle United battling for his signature. According to the report, French side, Toulouse, wants around €15 million, and Bologna is also in the race.
Premier League duo chasing Logan Costa
The market continues to open up in a big way, and now many clubs, particularly those from the Premier League, are searching for centre-backs. Starting with Newcastle United, they recently registered an interest in Marc Guehi, although there are difficulties in finding an agreement owing to his price and rival interest, such as that from Liverpool.
Hence, Eddie Howe continues to keep his options open, with other names already mentioned, including Liverpool’s Jor Gomez. The Magpies are also keen on Toulouse’s Logan Costa, with the 23-year-old Ligue 1 defender now attracting the interest of West Ham United.
The two clubs chasing Costa could compete in this window to convince the players of their respective projects. Julen Lopetegui has already signed Max Kilman from the former Wolves side and remains keen on adding another player to the position.
While they agreed with OGC Nice for Jean-Clair Todibo earlier, they will continue to chase the Frenchman, although their chances are remote. With West Ham having Kurt Zouma in their ranks, signing a top-draw name may not be a priority, and hence, someone like Costa might do the job. Toulouse wants €15 million for the defender and is willing to sell.
Italian interest in Costa
Italian clubs are particularly hampering Newcastle United’s and West Ham’s progress in signing favourable targets. For instance, both those clubs want Todibo, who wants Juventus. Similarly, Costa has interest from Bologna, who is a defender short after the departure of Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal earlier.
While Bologna are not open to paying the €15 million needed to sign Costa, Premier League sides have the financial capacity to sign the 23-year-old Ligue 1 defender. Hence, the likelihood of the Toulouse star coming to England is high, as this transfer story could progress soon.
