Marc Guehi is reportedly open to joining Newcastle United this summer, with the Crystal Palace defender also a target for Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Alex Crook for talkSPORT, Marc Guehi is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. Meanwhile, the Crystal Palace defender is also a target for Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, with the Eagles demanding around £60 million to sell him. However, the Englishman is open to joining Newcastle United and has boosted the Tyneside club’s prospects.
Marc Guehi and his rise at Crystal Palace
Marc Guehi has been one of the best young defenders in the Premier League since joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea in July 2021. The English defender did not receive his opportunities at the West London club and parted ways with them to move to Selhurst Park three years ago.
Since then, the 24-year-old has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as a mainstay at the back for Crystal Palace. The Englishman has turned out over 100 times thus far for the South London club while chipping in with five goals and two assists. Meanwhile, Guehi’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting high-profile clubs like Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United.
A man in demand
Arne Slot is reportedly pushing Liverpool to secure Marc Guehi’s services in the summer transfer window. The Reds have parted ways with Joel Matip as a free agent, and the Crystal Palace defender can be a like-for-like replacement. However, the South London club’s asking price of £60 million might pose a problem.
Alex Crook has revealed that the Eagles want £60 million to part ways with Marc Guehi in the summer transfer window. It does not make sense for Tottenham to spend that much unless the former Chelsea defender displaces Cristian Romero or Micky van de Ven as the first-choice central defender.
However, Newcastle United’s interest in Guehi is understandable. The Magpies are keen on signing another centre-back before the summer transfer window shuts down despite landing Lloyd Kelly in a Bosman move. The latest development has boosted Newcastle United’s prospects, with the 24-year-old Englishman open to moving to St. James’ Park.
But it is unclear if Newcastle United will be open to coughing up £60 million to secure Marc Guehi’s services. It will be interesting to see where the England international plies his trade in the 2024/25 season.
