Liverpool turn down Southampton bid for Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool have rejected Southampton’s £15 million offer for young attacker Fabio Carvalho, whose future is still uncertain.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool have rebuffed a £15 million bid from Southampton for Fabio Carvalho; the 21-year-old ace is keen to play regularly and could dictate his future from here on, as he may not get a regular place at the Merseysiders despite his bright performances in pre-season.

Liverpool rejects Fabio Carvalho’s bid

Fabio Carvalho remains a divisive figure at Liverpool, who did not have a future at the club 12 months ago when Jurgen Klopp quickly allowed him to leave on loan. His first spell on loan last season was with RB Leipzig, which proved disastrous, although he was able to shine in the Championship with Hull City, whom he joined in January.

Carvalho played 20 times, scoring nine goals and providing two assists, which earned him some recognition in the eyes of a few managers. Among those was Southampton boss Russell Martin, with the Saints holding talks with intermediaries for the 21-year-old ace and making a bid.

Liverpool have turned down their bid of £15 million for Carvalho because they are not sure about his future yet. While earlier reports suggested they might be open to another loan, that may not be the case, as the 21-year-old ace could only leave permanently.

Liverpool felt Southampton’s valuation was insufficient to tempt them into selling the 21-year-old, as they could seek way more for the attacking midfielder. Carvalho also proved a point in pre-season, which would only strengthen Liverpool’s case, as the Saints might return with a new offer.

Carvalho’s Liverpool future

While most Liverpool fans expected the attacking midfielder to depart in the summer, there have been some changes in opinions. The absence of some notable stars from the Liverpool squad gave Carvalho the platform to shine in pre-season, and he took it with both arms. He also managed to find the net in sharp performances against Arsenal and Manchester United, which may have convinced Arne Slot to keep him for the season.

Yet, the player would want to avoid a bit-part role in the coming season and might be open to joining another team where he can play regularly. The player and his camp would deeply appreciate a chance in the Premier League, as some other clubs might also come into the equation.
