West Ham United have decided not to pursue N’Golo Kante, with Guido Rodriguez closing in on completing a Bosman move to the London Stadium this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, N’Golo Kante is no longer the subject of interest from West Ham United. The East London club briefly considered bringing the former Chelsea midfielder back to the Premier League. However, they have zeroed in on Guido Rodriguez as their midfield reinforcement in the summer transfer window.
N’Golo Kante and his recent performances
N’Golo Kante has resurrected his stuttering career since joining Al-Ittihad in a Bosman move last summer. The Frenchman spent eight years in the Premier League, with seven coming at Chelsea between 2016 and 2023. He enjoyed tremendous success at Stamford Bridge, winning the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League titles with the West London club.
The 33-year-old has turned out 44 times thus far for Al-Ittihad while chipping in with four goals and six assists. Kante developed new facets to his game at the Saudi Pro League club, contributing more in the final third while retaining his defensive output.
N’Golo Kante’s exploits for Al-Ittihad were so impressive that he earned a spot in France’s squad for UEFA Euro 2024. The veteran midfielder was one of the best players in the competition and nearly found his way to our Team of the Tournament. In addition, the French midfielder’s performances have alerted several well-known clubs, including West Ham United.
West Ham considered signing Kante
West Ham United’s interest in N’Golo Kante is understandable. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window, as Tomas Soucek has blown hot and cold in the last two seasons. Kante thus emerged as a viable target for West Ham.
In addition, West Ham had a decent chance of landing the former Chelsea midfielder as he reportedly wanted to return to the Premier League this summer. However, a move will not see the light of day, as the Hammers have cooled their interest in the 33-year-old Frenchman.
Instead, they have zeroed in on Guido Rodriguez to bolster their midfield department in the summer transfer window, with the Argentine international on the verge of completing a Bosman move to West Ham United.
