Manchester United submit offers for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui

Manchester United have submitted offers to sign Bayern Munich defensive duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui this summer.

Manchester United are keen on reinforcing their defence before the start of next season and they have their eyes set on Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. According to a report from The Athletic, the Manchester-based club have put forward a joint bid to sign the Bayern Munich duo who are represented by Rafaela Pimenta.

Manchester United keen on defensive reinforcement

United struggled a lot as a defensive unit last season because of injuries to key players. To ensure they put up much-improved performances this season, the Red Devils want to revamp their backline. Following the departure of Raphael Varane, they have already added Leny Yoro to the mix.

However, they are still looking to add another experienced centre-back to their squad. Erik ten Hag seeks more depth at the back and is keen on reuniting with Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutch centre-back has had great success under him at Ajax and his arrival at Old Trafford will increase the competition for places.

The Red Devils are also looking to bring in a new right-back with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future at the club uncertain amidst interest from West Ham United. They consider Noussair Mazraoui to be just the right fit for Ten Hag’s system.

The Moroccan international had also worked with the Dutch manager during his time at Ajax. He is already aware of his demands and could be a great upgrade at right-back. Since he can feature on both flanks, it will be a bonus for United.

Manchester United’s joint bid for De Ligt and Mazraoui rejected

The Red Devils stepped up their interest in the Bayer Munich defenders by submitting a joint bid on Thursday. Both players are considered to be surplus to requirements at the German club and they were informed before the start of the transfer window that they could look for a new club.

While Bayern did suggest that they could lower their demands to get them off their books, they have turned down United’s first offer for their services and are looking for a much higher fee to sanction their departure. Despite the setback, the Red Devils’ interest remains intact and talks are still ongoing.

Both players have already agreed personal terms with United. They are ready to sign a five-year deal with an option to extend it for another 12 months. While everything seemed to be in place and their agent Rafaela Pimenta was confident that Bayern would accept United’s offer, they have been left shocked by the German giants’ decision.
