Tottenham face problems pursuing Federico Chiesa as the winger wants to join a UEFA Champions League side this summer.
According to Give Me Sport, Federico Chiesa’s desire to play UEFA Champions League football could end Tottenham’s pursuit of the winger. The Juventus star is ready to leave the Serie A club only for top-tier continental football, something Spurs cannot offer now.
Tottenham’s Federico Chiesa pursuit in doubt
Tottenham had been hoping to sign a top-draw winger and striker in this window, although it would also be a case of one of the other rather than both. Either way, they have held an interest in Juventus star Federico Chiesa, who is available for around £25 million in this window.
Chiesa has a year left on his Juventus deal, and they are not eager to lose a player of his quality on the free next year. There are even doubts whether new manager Thiago Motta sees him fit the new plans, as the club is ready to consider offers, and the winger has significant suitors.
Tottenham are among those, although there were reports that they could abandon the pursuit owing to his salary demands of over his current £150,000-a-week wages and interest from other clubs. The latter remains a big factor, as Chiesa reportedly wants to play UEFA Champions League football and will only join a club playing in the competition.
Unfortunately for Tottenham, they can only offer Europa League action next season, which may derail their pursuit of Federico Chiesa. There are chances they might try for the winger in the coming period, but the chances are slim as things stand. The winger could also be open to staying at Juventus during this final year and leave on a free, with some sides like Inter Milan already open to signing him next summer.
Tottenham looking at Dominic Solanke?
Whether Ange Postecoglou considers a winger signing essential remains to be seen, although the Spurs boss certainly wants a new striker to arrive, Dominic Solanke remains a big target, and some other clubs are chasing his signature.
While Bournemouth are confident of keeping him, Tottenham still has a big chance to lure him should they manage to find an agreement with the Cherries. Solanke has a massive £65 million release clause designed for top-six clubs, and the club will not sell him for a price below that figure.
