According to a report by Brazilian outlet UOL, Gabriel Mec is the subject of interest from Chelsea. Manchester United are also keen on signing the 16-year-old wonderkid and seal the deal for his signature in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Gremio will demand around €20 million to part ways with the teenage sensation.

Gabriel Mec and his rapid rise

Gabriel Mec is the latest highly-rated prodigy to rise in prominence in his homeland. A native of Rio de Janeiro, he has been with Gremio since 2019 and has gone from strength to strength in the last half a decade at the Brazilian club.

The 16-year-old has taken age-group football by storm in his homeland, with his exploits capturing the attention of well-known clubs across Europe. Recent reports have heavily linked Gabriel Mec’s services with Chelsea in the last few weeks. However, the Blues are not alone in the battle, with Manchester United also keen on signing him.

England move beckons?

Chelsea recently opened talks with Gremio regarding a move for the Brazilian wonderkid, with the West London club eager to advance the move to sign him. The Blues have been busy in the South American market while signing some of the most highly-rated prospects within the continent.

Such an outlook has helped Chelsea land prodigies like Andrey Santos, Angelo Gabriel, and Kendry Paez. In addition, the Blues have already secured Estevao Willian’s signature, while Gabriel Mec is also a top target. However, Chelsea will face stiff competition from Manchester United in the race to sign the teenager.

Manchester United have not been as busy in the South American market as Chelsea. However, they have considered securing Gabriel Mec’s services. Meanwhile, Gremio will demand around €20 million to part ways with the 16-year-old Brazilian prodigy.

On the other hand, Chelsea will hope to land him for a base fee of around €7 million and an additional €7 million in wages. Of the €20 million, Gremio will look to recoup around €10 million in base fee. It will be interesting to see if the Blues accept the demands.
