Newcastle United could sell Kieran Trippier for £20-25 million

Newcastle United could accept bids in the region of £20-25 million for mainstay Kieran Trippier, who has a year left on his existing deal.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United could boost their transfer budget with a potential sale of experienced star Kieran Trippier. Despite his age, the 33-year-old still has a significant market as the Magpies are reportedly willing to accept bids in the region of £20-25 million.

Newcastle United to sell Kieran Trippier?

Kiran Trippier’s future became a prominent subject during the January transfer window when Bayern Munich made an offer for the England international. Despite his age, the experienced right-back continues to play at the highest level and has shown no signs of slowing down.

Having played 39 games for Newcastle United last season, he ended the campaign with a goal and 11 assists. The productive numbers are great for a full-back, as some top-level sides are still monitoring his situation. Whether Bayern are still interested remains the question, although nothing can be ruled out.

The report emphasises Saudi Arabia’s interest in the 33-year-old, and considering Newcastle United’s connections to the Middle East, a deal is likely a possibility. The Magpies are willing to sanction a sale and could demand between £20-25 million.

That is quite a steep price for a player with advancing age, but Trippier’s overall quality seems to be the major factor in this demand. The England international has less than a year left on his deal, and the Magpies will be willing to cash in now rather than lose him on the free next year.

Newcastle United’s right-back plans

Should Trippier leave, Eddie Howe must replace the player with the right candidate, who will have to come close to replicating his numbers. Valentino Livramento remains the firm choice to succeed the 33-year-old, with Emil Krafth also on their books.

They are in the market for Trevoh Chalobah, with the Chelsea utility man likely to decide on his future soon. There is a level of certainty that Howe views Livramento as Trippier’s natural successor but might use the cash generated from the defender’s sale to sign another right-back as Krafth is someone the manager may not trust too much.
