West Ham United poised to cool interest in Crysencio Summerville

West Ham United are reportedly set to abandon the move to sign Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by talkSPORT, Crysencio Summerville is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on bolstering their attack in the summer transfer window. However, they will likely walk away from the deal to sign the Dutchman due to Leeds United’s asking price of around £40 million.

Crysencio Summerville and his impact at Leeds United

Crysencio Summerville has taken no time to establish himself as one of the best players for Leeds United. The Dutchman has been with the West Yorkshire outfit since July 2021 but came into his own after they went down to the EFL Championship.

The 22-year-old was exceptional throughout the 2023/24 season winning the Championship Player of the Year award for his superb performances. Summerville contributed to 31 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 21 times while providing 10 assists.

However, the Dutch attacker could not do enough to guide Leeds United back to the Premier League, with the Whites faltering in the last few weeks of their 2023/24 campaign. Nevertheless, Crysencio Summerville’s progress at Elland Road has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including West Ham United.

Premier League return on the horizon?

West Ham United’s interest in Crysencio Summerville is understandable. The Hammers are keen on bolstering their offensive department in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Lucas Paqueta. Summerville has thus emerged as a viable target for the East London outfit.

However, the Hammers do not want to cough up more than £20 million to secure Crysencio Summerville’s services. That is a problem, with Leeds United demanding around £40 million to part ways with the 22-year-old Dutchman amid his links with West Ham. So, the East London club might abandon the move for the Leeds United attacker.

The Whites are not under pressure to sell Summerville after Archie Gray joined Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth £40 million. So, Leeds United will demand a sum closer to Gray’s selling price. That has effectively ended West Ham United’s chances of signing the Dutch attacker in the summer transfer window.
