West Ham United are interested in acquiring the services of Borussia Dortmund ace Niclas Fullkrug before the end of the transfer window.
West Ham United are keen on signing a new number nine before the start of the 2024/25 season. They were in talks with Aston Villa for the services of Jhon Duran, but those discussions have stalled. And according to a report from Sky Sports, the Hammers are now looking at Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug as a potential target.
Fullkrug joined the German giants last summer, and he did have an impressive debut campaign with 15 goals and 10 assists in his 43 outings. He played a big part in their incredible run in the UEFA Champions League, and his performance helped him make it to the German squad for UEFA Euro 2024, where he bagged two goals.
While he still has two years left on his deal at Borussia Dortmund, multiple top clubs are interested in the 31-year-old who still seems to have a few years left in him. West Ham United are one of the clubs who have recently been linked with Fullkrug.
West Ham keen on Niclas Fullkrug
The Hammers want to reinforce their attack before the start of next season. While they have already signed Luis Guilherme to strengthen the flanks, Julen Lopetegui is keen on having a new number lead him to attack. He wants someone who has a strong physical presence and is capable enough to bring others into the plan.
Jhon Duran is their priority target for the role. The 20-year-old Colombian striker has huge potential, and he could be an exceptional signing for the short as well as the long run. Aston Villa are willing to sanction his departure. But they want a significant fee to part ways with him.
The Hammers have not been able to find an agreement with the West Midlands outfit as there is a big gap in valuation. While they remain interested in Duran, things do not really look that promising. West Ham’s previous player-plus-cash offer now seems to be off the table, with midfielder Lewis Orford discussing a new deal.
With the deal for Duran falling off, the Hammers have decided to focus on other targets, and Niclas Fullkrug has emerged as a potential signing. The East London club could soon make a move for his services as they desperately need a new number nine with both Michail Antonio and Danny Ings in the final phase of their career.
