Manchester City full-back Yan Couto is expected to undergo his medical as a new Borussia Dortmund player this week.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Yan Couto is on the verge of joining Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City, and he is expected to undergo his medical tests this week. While both clubs are yet to sort out the final details of the transfer, if everything goes as per the plan, the Brazilian full-back should be in Germany in the coming days to complete his transfer.
Couto’s incredible rise since moving to Europe
Yan Couto caught the attention of Manchester City while coming up the ranks at Brazilian club Coritiba FC. Just six months after he was promoted to their first team. Manchester City signed him and sent him out on loan to sister club Girona. He even had a year-long spell at Portuguese club SC Braga before rejoining the Spanish club on a two-year-long loan deal.
The 22-year-old full-back had a breakthrough season at Girona last time out. He played a big part in their incredible run in La Liga, which helped them secure a place in the UEFA Champions League. The Brazilian international was involved in 34 league games, and he contributed towards 11 goals (1 goal, 10 assists).
While he returned to his parent club after the end of the loan spell, the 22-year-old full-back doesn’t seem to have a place in Pep Guardiola’s squad for the 2024/25 season. As a result, Manchester City have been looking to cash in on him with two years left on his deal. As per reports, they value him at around €30 million.
Yan Couto to join Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund have been linked with the Brazilian full-back for some time now. The Bundesliga giants want to reinforce the right side of their defence, and they feel Couto is the ideal fit for them. They have been in negotiations with City for a while now and even submitted a bid of around €25 million for him.
Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund have already reached an agreement for the transfer of the youngster. While the exact fee has not been made public yet, Couto is all set to travel to Dortmund to undergo his medical this week. Meanwhile, both clubs will look to sort out the final details of the transfer as they are yet to agree on the deal structure and payment terms.
