Sofyan Amrabat waits in the hope that Manchester United will return to sign him, with a new formula being mentioned.
According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, Sofyan Amrabat is hopeful of a return to Manchester United despite complications in the pursuit. Fiorentina might be willing to reduce their asking price for the Moroccan midfielder, as the Red Devils could have another chance to sign him on loan.
Sofyan Amrabat hopeful of Manchester United return
The Sofyan Amrabat experiment was leaning towards failure last season, but Erik ten Hag found the right way to use the midfielder. Not only did the Dutchman play him in his natural position at the base of the midfield, but it also coincided with Manchester United’s dream run to FA Cup glory.
Amrabat does not represent a starting choice midfielder for Manchester United, but he could provide ample squad depth in that position, as he showed late last season. As things stand, the Moroccan remains hopeful of re-signing for the club as he is waiting for the Red Devils to return with an approach.
Manchester United decided against triggering his €20 million purchase option, which has since seen them release the midfielder. He has not returned to training with Fiorentina, as the club are now prepared to lower their demands and put forward a new formula.
Fiorentina are willing to loan Amrabat again, provided this time there’s a buy-obligation attached to the deal. The report points to a potential reduction in their asking price for the 27-year-old Serie A ace to €12 million, which is significantly lower than their €20 million clause earlier.
Will Manchester United re-sign Amrabat?
Manchester United are actively looking at new midfielders in this window, although there are some departures like to take place as well. For instance, they are looking at Manuel Ugarte and Youssouf Fofana, while Casemiro and Scott McTominay are the players who might depart.
Even if Ten Hag manages to bring the targets above, he might still make do with a low-cost option such as Amrabat, who knows his system well. He could be a solid squad option, which might bring in some much-needed depth to their midfield, meaning there’s a big chance that Manchester United might go back in for the 27-year-old Serie A ace.
