Chelsea held talks to sign Mads Hermansen before setting sights on Filip Jorgensen

Chelsea reportedly held talks with fellow Premier League club Leicester City to sign Mads Hermansen, but the price tag of £40 million scuppered the move.

According to a report by Danish outlet Bold, Mads Hermansen has been the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues have been keen on signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window and held talks with fellow Premier League club Leicester City over a move. However, the Foxes priced the West London club out of a deal due to their price tag of £40 million.

The rise of Mads Hermansen at Leicester City

Mads Hermansen has established himself as a pivotal figure for Leicester City since arriving from Brondby IF last summer. A native of Odense, the Dane spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the youth division at Brondby IF.

However, Hermansen’s stock has soared since joining Leicester City 12 months ago. The 24-year-old played his part as Leicester City won the EFL Championship title and secured automatic promotion to the Premier League, keeping 13 clean sheets in 44 outings while conceding 41 goals.

Meanwhile, Mads Hermansen’s exploits for Leicester City have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. In particular, Chelsea mulled over signing the Danish goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, even holding talks with Leicester City.

Chelsea wanted to sign Hermansen

Chelsea’s interest in Mads Hermansen is understandable. Enzo Maresca is an admirer of the 24-year-old goalkeeper, who he managed during their short time together at Leicester City. The newly-appointed Chelsea manager would have asked the West London club to pursue the Foxes’ shot-stopper amid the search for a new goalkeeper.

While Chelsea held talks to secure mads Hermansen’s services, Leicester City’s asking price of £40 million scuppered the move. So, the Blues set their sights on Filip Jorgensen, with the Villarreal goalkeeper closing in on moving to Stamford Bridge from Villarreal in a deal worth around £20 million.

As for Hermansen, the Danish goalkeeper will remain at the King Power Stadium for another season, and he will hope to continue making his mark for Leicester City in the 2024/24 Premier League season as they hope to remain in the top flight.
