Manchester United are reportedly keen on Archie Brown, as Erik ten Hag eyes a new left-back and has doubts about their existing options.
According to HITC, Manchester United could be considering an approach for KAA Gent left-back Archie Brown, as Erik ten Hag is keen to solve a problem area. INEOS has signed him before, and the Red Devils could have a favourable relationship with his camp as they search the market for left-back options.
Archie Brown on Manchester United’s radar
Manchester United are seriously considering recruiting a new left-back this season, with Erik ten Hag and INEOS exploring few market options. They currently have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia as their two players there, but both have continued to struggle with fitness issues.
Shaw played at least a few games last season, with Ten Hag resorting to using Diogo Dalot or Aaron Wan-Bissaka in that role for most games. Meanwhile, Malacia failed to play a single minute in the previous campaign and has only recently returned to light training.
The Manchester United chiefs do not want to rely solely on the duo to remain available throughout next season, so they are recruiting another option for the position. KAA Gent’s Archie Brown has appeared on their radar, as INEOS previously signed him for Swiss side FC Lausanne.
He will be seen as an inexpensive acquisition compared to some other stars they are linked with, such as Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern. Rated at €5 million by Transfermarkt, there’s the chance of signing the 22-year-old defender for slightly over that price point, as he can act as a good cover option for Luke Shaw, who is fit for the start of the new season.
Manchester United looking for a left-back
Brown’s name might be the latest on their list, but Manchester United are now actively looking at multiple left-back options. Erik ten Hag wants Fenerbahce’s Ferdi Kadioglou. The Turkish defender is a solid candidate to come in, and his ability to play both sides properly is a big plus point.
Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell is another option, which will be an expensive acquisition compared to Marcos Alonso, who is readily available on a Bosman move. Either way, Manchester United might potentially bring in a new player in that position, one who can compete and act as a cover for Shaw.
