Mikel Arteta does not want Arsenal to sell Fabio Vieira in the summer transfer window, with the North London club blocking enquiries for the 24-year-old midfielder.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Fabio Vieira will remain at Arsenal for another season. Clubs from four countries are interested in signing the 24-year-old midfielder in the summer transfer window. However, the Gunners have knocked back enquiries from those teams, with Mikel Arteta pushing to keep him at the Emirates.
Fabio Vieira and his Arsenal anguish
Fabio Vieira has failed to stamp his authority since joining Arsenal from FC Porto in July 2022. A native of Santa Maria da Feira, he spent his formative years in his homeland, joining FC Porto as an eight-year-old in 2008 before rapidly rising through the ranks at the club.
The 24-year-old was one of the most highly-rated young midfield prospects in his homeland before joining Arsenal and FC Porto two years ago. However, Vieira has been a backup option for the North London club in the last two seasons, not even turning out 50 times thus far for them while chipping in with only three goals and nine assists.
More than half of those outings came in Fabio Vieira’s debut season, as he managed only 17 appearances in the 2023/24 campaign. So, it is hardly surprising that the Portuguese midfielder faces an uncertain future at Arsenal in the summer transfer window. However, his stock in the market remains high.
What next?
The report has claimed that clubs from four countries are interested in signing Fabio Vieira from Arsenal in the summer transfer window. These teams have also enquired about the former FC Porto midfielder. However, the approaches have not worked, with the North London club knocking them back.
Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to keep hold of the 24-year-old midfielder, who remains in his plans for the 2024/25 season. While the Gunners are in the market for a midfielder amid their links with Mikel Merino, they will likely sell Thomas Partey to make room for the new signing.
So, Vieira will unlikely leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window, even though clubs from Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, ad Spain are ready to secure his services. It will be interesting to see if he can secure more game time this season.
