Newcastle United keen on Nicolas Gonzalez

Newcastle United are interested in a move for Fiorentina winger Nicolas Gonzalez, as they might have already made an offer.

According to Viola News, Nicolas Gonzalez has emerged as a target for Newcastle United, who might have made an offer to test Fiorentina’s resolve. The Italian side are not very keen to lose their influential star, although a big offer might empty them into a sale.

Newcastle United are chasing Nicolas Gonzalez

Nico Gonzalez was the subject of Premier League interest last summer, but Fiorentina used their power to keep him at the club. Brentford made a €43 million offer for the 25-year-old South American attacker, which failed to move the needle in their favour.

This time around, Newcastle United have reportedly lodged a new bid for the winger, although the report claims it’s less than what Brentford offered last summer. Fiorentina still have the power, with Gonzalez tied with the club until 2028. Any movement will depend on the Serie A side’s willingness and certainly at the right price.

Fiorentina is not opposed to a sale despite Gonzalez being one of their key players, as they are banking on his presence for the upcoming season. Newcastle United might have to up their offer and bring it close to the valuation Fiorentina may deem acceptable.

The player is due to return around the beginning of August following his participation with Argentina at the Copa America. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are keen on signing a right winger, as they are preparing to offload Miguel Almirom; they do have some names and a few ambitious ones like Xavi Simons and Serge Gnabry, with the pair unlikely to choose the Magpies.

Newcastle’s winger targets

Gonzalez is the latest name on their list, but he’s far from the only one Newcastle has considered in this window. Gnabry has already ruled out a move, while they are hopeful of luring other targets, including Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto

They also have Noni Madueke on their shortlist, with the winger behind Cole Palmer in the Chelsea pecking order ahead of the new season. Hence, the Magpies may eventually end up signing a good enough player to replace Almiron, although there are question marks on who that might be.
