Chelsea and Filip Jorgensen have reportedly sealed an agreement on personal terms, with the Blues a step closer to landing the 22-year-old from La Liga club Villarreal.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Filip Jorgensen is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Villarreal goalkeeper has already agreed on personal terms with the West London club. So, the Blues are one step closer to bringing the 22-year-old from La Liga to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
Who is Filip Jorgensen?
Filip Jorgensen has established himself as one of the best young goalkeepers in La Liga since breaking into the first-team squad at Villarreal. A native of Lomma, Sweden, he began his youth career in his hometown before arriving in Spain in January 2014. Short spells at AD Penya Arrabal and RCD Mallorca followed before he joined Villarreal in July 2015.
Since then, the 22-year-old has come leaps and bounds, rapidly rising through the ranks at Villarreal before making his first-team bow in December 2021. However, Jorgensen had to wait until the 2023/24 campaign to become a regular for the Yellow Submarine, missing only two La Liga games last term.
Meanwhile, the Swedish-born goalkeeper currently represents Denmark in age-group football, although he is eligible to represent both countries internationally. Jorgensen’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. However, the youngster’s next destination will likely be Chelsea.
London calling?
Chelsea’s interest in Filip Jorgensen is understandable. While the Blues have signed several goalkeepers in the recent years, including two last summer, they have failed to hit the jackpot. So, they have scoured the market for a goalkeeper in this summer’s transfer window, with the Villarreal shot-stopper emerging as the top target.
The West London club’s interest has turned Filip Jorgensen’s head, and he has been keen on moving to Stamford Bridge in the last few days. The latest update revealed an agreement on personal terms between Chelsea and the Denmark under-21 international.
An agreement on the transfer fee between Chelsea and Villarreal is all that remains for the 22-year-old to swap La Liga for the Premier League. It will be interesting to see if the Blues seal the deal to sign Jorgensen anytime soon, with their pre-season campaign already starting.
