Liverpool defensive mainstay Virgil van Dijk is keen on penning down a new deal to continue his stay at Anfield amidst exit links.
According to a report from HITC, Virgil van Dijk has made a decision regarding his future at Liverpool. The Dutch international wants to continue at Anfield and is ready to sign a contract extension amidst interest in his services from the Saudi Pro League.
The Reds forked out a significant fee to sign Van Dijk in the winter of 2018 from Southampton. He ended up being one of their most important signings in the Jurgen Klopp era as he has played a key role in all the success the Merseyside club have had in recent seasons.
While he is already 33, he remains an integral part of their first team. Last season, the Dutch international was involved in 48 matches, he racked up over 4,000 minutes and even contributed towards six goals (4 goals, 2 assists).

He is keen on staying at the club and is willing to put pen to paper on a new deal. Meanwhile, Arne Slot who has taken over from Klopp considers the Dutch defender an integral part of his plans moving ahead. He has informed the club’s hierarchy that he wants Van Dijk around at all costs.
With the player keen on staying and signing a new deal, Liverpool can now focus on adding some quality to their squad as they are yet to make a signing. The Reds will look to extend his stay before the end of the year. While they won’t be able to cash in on him in the future as he is already 33, extending his stay will add experience to Slot’s squad and his presence will be very important for the dressing room.
