Manchester United establish fresh contacts to sign Youssouf Fofana, player open to move

Manchester United have established new contacts with Youssouf Fofana’s camp, as the midfielder is open to joining them.

According to Attacking Football, Manchester United are very much alive in the race for Youssouf Fofana, having established fresh contacts with the midfielder’s camp. The French international will be open to joining the Red Devils, although AC Milan are considered in the lead for the Monaco star.

Manchester United are still interested in Youssouf Fofana

Manchester United are busy in the transfer market as they continue to look for options that would strengthen its squad. Having already signed a new defender and striker, the Red Devils are moving on to other positions, namely central midfield.

There are reports suggesting the club might end up signing two new midfielders this summer, although there are doubts whether both will be big signings. The report clarifies that should they bring a top midfield target; the other one might be someone like Sofyan Amrabat, who could still arrive on different terms than previously agreed.

Meanwhile, they are still interested in signing Youssouf Fofana, who had fallen off their radar despite initial contacts back in June. Manchester United have reportedly reached out to the player’s camp once again, and this time, they could take it a bit further than before, with the midfielder understood to be keen on the switch.

Manchester United are aware of AS Monaco’s demands for the midfielder. The French giants want around £25-30 million for Fofana, who has entered the final year of his deal there. Manchester United have not made any proposals on personal terms or in the way of an offer to Monaco, which could now be forthcoming in the next phase.

Manchester United’s other midfield targets

While Manchester United might make an approach for Youssouf Fofana, it is still not clear whether they see him as their priority target or as an option for other names. For instance, the Red Devils are keen on Manuel Ugarte but are so far unwilling to pay the €70 million or so PSG is demanding.

The Premier League heavyweights have shown interest in other names, like Richard Rios, recently. But Fofana suits their cause and could fit in well. The £25-30 million-rated Frenchman would also be seen as a cost-effective signing with a long-term goal in mind.
