James Rodriguez offered to Aston Villa, Fulham

Intermediaries have reportedly offered Aston Villa and Fulham the opportunity to sign 33-year-old Colombian playmaker James Rodriguez after his Copa America exploits.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Aston Villa and Fulham will have the chance to sign James Rodriguez in the summer transfer window. The veteran playmaker has left Sao Paulo FC as a free agent by having his contract terminated. So, his representatives have offered him to several Premier League clubs, including the two mentioned earlier.

James Rodriguez and his journey so far

James Rodriguez was once among the most highly sought-after players in the market when he joined Real Madrid from AS Monaco shortly after an exceptional campaign at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. While he showed flashes of brilliance during his spell with Real Madrid and during his loan stint with Bayern Munich, he could not fulfil his tremendous potential.

Since leaving Real Madrid, the 33-year-old has struggled for stability, embarking on short stints with Everton, Al-Rayyan SC, Olympiacos, and Sao Paulo FC. The veteran playmaker is now a free agent after deciding to end his contract with the Brazilian outfit early. Rodriguez is ready for his next adventure and wants to return to Europe.

The Colombian international was exceptional at the 2024 Copa America, amassing one goal and six assists while winning the Player of the Tournament award for his excellent performances for Los Cafeteros. Rodriguez’s next adventure might come in the Premier League, with his agents offering him to Aston Villa and Fulham.

Premier League return on the horizon?

Aston Villa can do with a playmaker like James Rodriguez heading into the 2024/25 season. The Villans are preparing for a campaign in the UEFA Champions League, where they will need top-class players with experience in the competition. The veteran playmaker can thus come in handy for Aston Villa.

As for Fulham, the Colombian international can be a top-notch addition to the offensive unit despite his advancing age. The 33-year-old has previous experience in the Premier League and might not take long to settle down at Fulham, while he will have the chance to play in London.

Other Premier League clubs like Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest will also have the chance to secure James Rodriguez’s services in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if the former Real Madrid playmaker returns to the Premier League.
