Newcastle United, West Ham United hold talks to sign Malick Thiaw, Fikayo Tomori

Newcastle United and West Ham United have reportedly held talks to sign Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori from AC Milan in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC, Newcastle United and West Ham United are interested in signing Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori in the summer transfer window. The two Premier League clubs have held talks to secure the services of the AC Milan defensive duo, with the Rossoneri open to selling them in the coming weeks.

Malick Thiaw, Fikayo Tomori and their AC Milan journeys

Malick Thiaw has blown hot and cold since joining AC Milan from FC Schalke in August 2022. The 22-year-old was one of the most highly sought-after young defenders in the market before moving to San Siro. However, his stock has fallen somewhat in the last two years at the Serie A club.

The German defensive prospect has turned out 54 times thus far for the Rossoneri while chipping in with one assist. While Thiaw has not been at his best in the last two years, his stock in the market remains high. That is also true for Fikayo Tomori, although the Englishman has made his mark for AC Milan.

The 26-year-old has made nearly 150 appearances thus far for AC Milan while chipping in with seven goals and one assist. He played his part in the Rossoneri winning the Serie A title and has remained consistent at the back for the club. Meanwhile, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori are mutual targets for Newcastle United and West Ham United, with the two clubs holding talks to sign them.

Premier League approaching?

Newcastle United signed Lloyd Kelly in a Bosman move earlier this summer. However, they remain in the market for another centre-back, as Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are long-term absentees due to their knee injuries. So, Thiaw and Tomori are viable targets for Newcastle United, although the former is their likelier acquisition.

As for West Ham, they will likely push harder to secure Fikayo Tomori’s signature instead of Malick Thiaw’s. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd.

Thiaw and Tomori have thus emerged as viable targets for West Ham United. With Newcastle United also in the hunt, the two clubs must put in a concerted effort for one centre-back and land him in the summer transfer window.
