Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg set to join Marseille in €13.5 million deal

Marseille have reached an agreement with Tottenham for midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with the midfielder reportedly keen on the move.

According to Santi Aouna, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is all set to leave Tottenham and join Marseille after the two clubs struck an agreement. The 28-year-old Danish midfielder was unhappy with his role last season and had been looking for an exit since January. He’s now set to join the Ligue 1 giants managed by Roberto De Zerbi.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to join Marseille

Marseille are making some important moves in the transfer market, and they could be looking at another addition from a Premier League side. Mason Greenwood recently joined from Manchester United, and now, the French giants are closing in on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Danish midfielder was a mainstay at Tottenham for many seasons until the last one. Ange Postecoglou did not rate the 28-year-old despite his immense experience with the team and preferred to keep the Dane as more of a bench option.

He had been meaning to leave the club in January, but Spurs chose to keep him rather than weaken their midfield when they were in a strong table position. Now, he’s ready for a new challenge and has seemingly chosen Marseille as his new destination despite the interest from other Premier League sides, as Fulham were eager to test with an offer

Marseille have struck a deal with Tottenham for a fee of €13.5 million, which is staggering considering how much Spurs were demanding back in January. He will certainly sign a long-term deal, as Roberto De Zerbi’s presence continues to attract some top talents to the French giants.

Marseille looking at Premier League signings

Marseille are seriously building a good enough side under De Zerbi, as Hojbjerg is the second Premier League-level player to arrive this window. They are also keen on Eddie Nketiah, and the Arsenal striker is keen on joining the club this summer as talks between the two sides continue.

De Zerbi wanted to strengthen some fundamental positions, and Hojbjerg’s arrival does solve many midfield problems. Should Nketiah also join, they are looking at a good enough frontline with him alongside Greenwood ahead of the new season.
