Liverpool poised to hold crunch talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool will soon sit down with 25-year-old English international Trent Alexander-Arnold for crunch talks amid his links with Real Madrid.

According to a report by Football Insider, Trent Alexander-Arnold is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The escalating links have left Liverpool in a spot of bother, and officials from the Merseyside club will soon sit down with the 25-year-old to hold crunch talks regarding his future at Anfield.

The rise and rise of Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been a mainstay at the back for Liverpool for over half a dozen years. The Englishman has been a member of the first-team squad since making his senior bow in 2016. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds, becoming a pivotal figure for the Merseyside outfit while evolving into one of the best full-backs in the world.

The 25-year-old has already made over 300 appearances for the Merseyside outfit while chipping in with 19 goals and 81 assists. In addition, Alexander-Arnold became the vice-captain for Liverpool last year after Jordan Henderson moved to Saudi Arabia, with Virgil van Dijk inheriting the captain’s armband.

So, the England international is a future Liverpool captain, although the Reds are in a spot of bother over his long-term future, as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract. Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, especially Real Madrid.

Can Real Madrid entice Alexander-Arnold?

Real Madrid’s interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold is understandable. While Dani Carvajal enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career with Real Madrid and played his part in Spain winning UEFA Euro 2024, he is on the wrong side of 30. So, it behoves Real Madrid to identify a long-term successor to Carvajal, bringing the Liverpool vice-captain into the equation.

The Reds are anxious about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s long-term future at Anfield and want to tie him to a new contract. The latest report has revealed that officials from Liverpool will sit down with the 25-year-old Englishman to discuss his situation.

Meanwhile, a Bosman move to Real Madrid in the 2025 summer transfer window is also an option, with Alexander-Arnold increasingly tempted by that scenario. So, it will be interesting to see how the talks between the English international and Liverpool progress.
