Crystal Palace officials are reportedly flying to Marseille to make the final push to sign 26-year-old Senegalese winger Ismaila Sarr.
According to a report by The Sun, Ismaila Sarr is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The South London club’s sporting director, Dougie Freedman, has been chasing the Marseille winger for a long time. And the Eagles’ representatives are travelling to France to sign the 26-year-old from the Ligue 1 club in the summer transfer window.
The Ismaila Sarr story
Ismaila Sarr blew hot and cold after joining Marseille from Watford last summer. A native of Saint-Louis, the African winger spent his formative years in his homeland before moving to France in July 2016. His stock rose during his spell with Stade Rennais before Watford beat the competition to his signature in August 2019.
While Sarr was not a world-beater at Watford, he was arguably the Hornets’ best player during his four-year stay at Vicarage Road. That spell ended last summer, and the 26-year-old chipped in with five goals and six assists in 35 appearances across all competitions. However, the player’s stock in the market is as high as ever.
Several well-known clubs across Europe have their sights set on the Senegalese international, with his return to Ligue 1 likely ending after one season. A Premier League return might be on the cards, with Crystal Palace pushing hard to secure Ismaila Sarr’s services in the summer transfer window.
Premier League return on the horizon?
Crystal Palace’s interest in Ismaila Sarr is understandable. The Eagles have been scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the summer transfer window after losing Michael Olise, who has joined Bayern Munich. In addition, Eberechi Eze faces an uncertain future at Crystal Palace, while Jordan Ayew is on the wrong side of 30.
So, it behoves Crystal Palace to invest in a wide attacker, with Sarr emerging as a viable target. The latest update has revealed that the Eagles are making the final push to land the Senegalese international and end their six-year wait to secure his services, with Dougie Freedman, their sporting director, chasing him for half a dozen years.
Crystal Palace officials will travel to France to seal the deal to sign the 26-year-old Marseille winger from the Ligue 1 club. It will be interesting to see if the upcoming talks yield the desired results in the coming days.
