Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are ready to part ways with Mason Mount just 12 months after signing from Chelsea.
According to a report from HITC, Manchester United have made a decision regarding the future of Mason Mount. The Red Devils are willing to sanction the former Chelsea graduate’s departure amidst interest from Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.
Mount made the move to Old Trafford last summer. A lot was expected from the English international who was handed the number 7 jersey. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to showcase his true potential in a season where he struggled to deal with injuries.
United’s £60 million signing missed 26 games from injury. He was only involved in 20 matches, racked up under 800 minutes and had just two goal contributions to his name. While he still has four years left on his deal at the Manchester-based club, they are ready to cash in on him this summer.
After having signed Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, new sporting Dan Ashworth is now expected to focus on potential departures and Mount’s name is quite high on that list. Erik ten Hag had conversations with the club’s recruitment team where he was asked about players they could offload and he has reportedly mentioned the name of the former Chelsea midfielder.
Aston Villa & Tottenham keen on Mount
With United ready to cash in on the 25-year-old, there is a significant amount of interest in him from top Premier League clubs. Aston Villa and Tottenham have been linked with Mount. Unai Emery’s men are looking to bolster their squad as they prepare to compete in the Champions League. The English attacking midfielder could be an exceptional signing for them given his versatility.
Meanwhile, Spurs are also looking to add more quality to their midfielder amidst uncertainty around Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso’s future. Mount could be an ideal replacement for the former Real Betis star.
The report suggests that a number of clubs have been made aware of his availability and Tottenham and Villa are two of those clubs. Intermediaries have spoken to both Premier League clubs about his availability.
Romano’s take on Mount’s future
While the report from HITC suggests that Mount could be on the move, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester United are not looking to part ways with him. The former Chelsea star is focused on doing his best at Old Trafford after an unlucky debut season where injuries didn’t allow him to showcase his abilities. At this point, there are no plans to part ways with the 25-year-old.
