Manchester United are reportedly a step closer to signing 23-year-old Uruguayan international Manuel Ugarte from Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain.
According to a report by Santi Aouna on Foot Mercato, Manuel Ugarte is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are closing in on securing the agreement to sign the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder. Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 giants want €70 million to part ways with the 23-year-old in the summer transfer window.
Manuel Ugarte at PSG: The story so far
Manuel Ugarte endured a hit-and-miss debut season at Paris Saint-Germain after arriving from Sporting CP in a deal worth €60 million last summer. The South American midfielder was hot off the blocks but dropped in stature in the second half of the 2023/24 season.
Nevertheless, the 23-year-old was a part of the squad that won the Ligue 1 title in the 2023/24 season. So, Ugarte could not manage even 2,500 minutes of game time across 37 appearances in all competitions for PSG last term. However, the youngster’s stock in the market remains high as a departure from Parc des Princes inches closer.
Several high-profile clubs across Europe have set their sights on the Uruguayan international. However, the PSG midfielder will likely join Manchester United in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 champions want €70 million to part ways with Ugarte.
Premier League beckons?
Manchester United’s interest in Manuel Ugarte is understandable. The Red Devils have been scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window after Casemiro blew hot and cold in the 2023/24 season. So, the PSG midfielder has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United.
Personal terms should not be an issue for either party, with recent reports revealing an agreement. However, the price tag of €70 million is steep, even though he has four years remaining on his contract with PSG. Nevertheless, the Ligue 1 giants and Manchester United are close to finding common ground on the transfer fee.
It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils are ready to cough up €70 million to secure Manuel Ugarte’s services in the summer transfer window. However, we might soon see the 23-year-old PSG midfielder leaving the Ligue 1 champions in the summer transfer window.
