Eddie Nketiah might be tempted by Marseille’s interest as the French club has made their first proposal for the 25-year-old Arsenal striker.
According to Santi Aouna, Marseille have launched their first bid for Eddie Nketiah, with the Arsenal striker keen on the switch. He will find opportunities hard to get by at the Emirates in the coming season. Meanwhile, the Gunners are happy to sell him for the right price as negotiations continue.
Eddie Nketiah is interested in Marseille’s switch.
In the last few days, Marseille have stepped up their transfer activities and could potentially end the window with three Premier League-proven stars. They have already signed Mason Greenwood from Manchester United, with the controversial forward signing a five-year deal.
New manager Roberto De Zerbi has set sights on two more Premier League stars, those being Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah. Marseille were ready to make an offer for the striker, and the bid might have arrived. But the Gunners are yet to respond as negotiations are underway and have a positive tone to it.
Nketiah remains open to joining Marseille and potentially replacing former Gunners captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah. Either way, the 25-year-old Arsenal homegrown star liked the project under De Zerbi, and a chance to shine in France could help develop his career.
Now, the deal will depend on the money Arsenal will demand and how much Marseille are willing to pay. Moreover, the 25-year-old is also on huge wages, something that Marseille might not be willing to match. So, there are still plenty of layers to cover before this deal concludes. For now, talks are ongoing between the two clubs, and there is a likelihood that an agreement could be made.
Arsenal focusing on homegrown sales
The Gunners have to focus on key outgoings this summer, as some important sales are required to bolster their transfer budget. Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga have already left, while Jakub Kiwior could be the next in line, and Arsenal are closing on a deal for Riccardo Calafiori.
However, their main focus is on homegrown sales, as Nketiah could be the first of the three potential outgoings in that regard. Crystal Palace and Fulham are massively interested in Emile Smith Rowe, while West Ham United are keen on Reiss Nelson.
