Barcelona need to make sales to complete Dani Olmo capture

Barcelona will have to sell a few players before securing the services of 26-year-old RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Dani Olmo is the subject of interest from FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are keen on re-signing the 26-year-old in the summer transfer window. However, they need to make some sales to balance the books before launching the offensive to land the RB Leipzig playmaker.

The Dani Olmo story

Dani Olmo has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for RB Leipzig since arriving from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2020. A former trainee in Barcelona’s fabled La Masia division, the Spaniard has made his mark at the club level outside his country, first in Croatia, then Germany.

The 26-year-old has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for RB Leipzig while chipping in with 29 goals and 34 assists. Meanwhile, Olmo often reserves his best for his national team and was recently top-class as Spain returned to the summit of European football by lifting the UEFA Euro 2024, with the player sharing the Golden Boot with five other players.

Dani Olmo’s exploits for his club and country have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. In particular, the Spanish international is a target for his former club, Barcelona, in the summer transfer window, with the Blaugrana chasing him for a few years.

Will Barcelona re-sign Olmo?

Barcelona’s interest in Dani Olmo is understandable. The Catalan giants have been scouring the market for a versatile playmaker heading into the summer transfer window. With Ilkay Gundogan on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the final phase of his glittering career, the RB Leipzig star is a viable target for Barcelona.

The latest report has revealed a stumbling block for the Blaugrana, as they need to sell a few players and balance their books before launching the offensive to secure Dani Olmo’s services in the summer transfer window. Fortunately for Barcelona, the release clause in the Spaniard’s RB Leipzig contract has expired.

So, Barcelona might have more time to raise the money to re-sign Olmo in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if the 26-year-old Spanish international rejoins his former club in the coming weeks.
