Manchester United ready to loan out Antony

Manchester United are reportedly ready to accept a loan offer for Antony in the summer transfer window, provided his suitor can afford his £70,000-a-week wages.

According to a report by ESPN, Antony faces an uncertain future at Manchester United heading into the final month of the summer transfer window. The Red Devils are open to accepting a loan offer for the misfiring Brazilian attacker. However, they will ask the club to bear his £70,000-a-week wages before giving the green light.

Antony and his Manchester United struggles

Antony has been an unmitigated disaster for Manchester United since arriving from Ajax in a deal worth £80.9 million nearly two years ago. The Premier League club could have landed the 24-year-old for a lower fee earlier in the 2022 transfer window instead of waiting until the final days of August.

The Brazilian international signed a five-year contract with £70,000-a-week wages when he arrived at Old Trafford two years ago. However, the misfiring attacker has failed to live up to the billing, managing only 11 goals and five assists in 82 appearances across all competitions, with most of that output coming in his debut season with Manchester United.

So, it is hardly surprising that the former Ajax winger faces an uncertain future at Manchester United heading into the summer transfer window. While the Red Devils are reportedly open to parting ways with him for an “acceptable” sum, very few clubs have shown interest in him.

Summer departure possible?

Intermediaries have reportedly also offered Antony to several clubs, including Barcelona, albeit unsuccessfully. The latest report has suggested that Manchester United are open to accepting loan offers for the misfiring Brazilian attacker in the summer transfer window.

However, the Red Devils want the club that secures Antony’s services on a loan deal to bear his £70,000-a-week wages. That might pose a problem for a few suitors, especially those that do not have a healthy financial position.

Nevertheless, the clear-out at Manchester United has begun, while the Premier League giants have made two sensible signings thus far in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if any club can secure Antony’s services on a season-long loan deal in the coming weeks.
