Aston Villa, Tottenham close to agreeing part-exchange deal involving Jacob Ramsey, Giovani Lo Celso

Aston Villa and Tottenham are in negotiations over a part-exchange deal involving Jacob Ramsey and Giovani Lo Celso.

According to TYC Sports, Aston Villa and Tottenham are negotiating a part-exchange move which will see the north Londoners land a long-term target, Jacob Ramsey; in return, Spurs are allowing Giovani Lo Celso to reunite with Unai Emery, along with sending a chunk in cash for the Villa Academy product.

Jacob Ramsey-Giovani lo Celso swap underway

Aston Villa are making aggressive changes to their squad, with Unai Emery and director Monchi working together to get the best deals in the market. From the showings of last season, there were indications that the Birmingham-based club were willing to part ways with one of their promising academy stars and first-team player, Jacob Ramsey.

Tottenham have held long-term interest in the midfielder and are now set to sign the 23-year-old and send Copa America winner Giovani Lo Celso the other way. Spurs offered such a deal earlier. But Aston Villa were not interested at that time.

Now, things have changed for Villa, as they have held talks over a potential part-exchange deal involving the 23-year-old and Copa America winner. As per the report, Lo Celso is a crucial target for Emery, as a deal might materialise.

Spurs are willing to send the Argentine along with £19 million in cash for Ramsey, which will be a good deal for all parties concerned. Aston Villa can book the sale proceeds as pure profit owing to the 23-year-old’s homegrown status, while Spurs will get a player they have chased for a long time.

Will this move work for all parties?

Lo Celso did show his talent in flashes under Ange Postecoglou last season. But the Copa America 2024 winner not considered part of the plans for the future. Spanish clubs have also been interested in the Argentine international, although he might prefer a reunion with Emery this summer.

Meanwhile, Ramsey’s prospects of growing into this team under Emery are seen as remote, and the manager may not fancy him like some of his predecessors. Hence, moving on is ideal for all parties concerned, with both managers getting a player they feel can improve their current squad.
