Tottenham looking to steal a march on Fulham for Scott McTominay

Tottenham will reportedly look to steal a march on Fulham in the race to sign Scott McTominay, valued at £40 million by Manchester United.

According to a report by The Sun, Scott McTominay is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Manchester United homegrown player is also a target for Fulham in the summer transfer window. However, the North London giants want to hijack the Cottagers’ move for the Scottish midfielder, with the Red Devils demanding £40 million to part ways with him.

The Scott McTominay story

Scott McTominay has been a reliable performer for Manchester United, although he does not possess enough quality to be the first-choice midfielder. A native of Lancaster, the Scotsman spent his formative years with Manchester United after joining the club as a six-year-old in 2002.

Since then, the 27-year-old homegrown midfielder has gone from strength to strength, learning the ability to reprise defensive and attacking roles from central areas. McTominay broke into the first-team squad towards the end of the 2016/17 season and has been a regular for the Premier League heavyweights in the last seven years.

The Scottish international has turned out over 250 times thus far for Manchester United while chipping in with 29 goals and eight assists. However, McTominay faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford this summer after entering the final 12 months of his contract. Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur.

London calling?

Fulham’s interest in Scott McTominay is understandable. The Cottagers have been scouring the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the summer transfer window after parting ways with Joao Palhinha, who has joined Bayern Munich. The Manchester United academy graduate has thus emerged as a viable target, with Fulham already failing with an offer.

The Cottagers now face a hijack from Tottenham, with the North London club looking to steal a march on them. Tottenham will look to part ways with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the summer transfer window, with the Dane coincidentally a target for Fulham. Meanwhile, McTominay will not come cheap, with Manchester United demanding around £40 million to sell him.

Manchester United’s valuation might pose a problem for Fulham and Tottenham, although the latter sold Palhinha for an attractive sum. It will be interesting to see if the two London clubs cough up £40 million to sign the Manchester United homegrown player this summer.
