Liverpool pinpoint Gleison Bremer as Virgil van Dijk successor

Liverpool have reported that Gleison Bremer should be Virgil van Dijk’s long-term replacement if he leaves the club.

According to Fichajes, who claims Virgil van Dijk might quit Liverpool and insists that the Merseysiders have identified Gleison Bremer as the Dutchman’s ideal replacement. The reports of the Dutchman’s departure might be unfounded at this stage, although the €70 million-rated Serie A defender from Juventus might be the right man to bet on.

Gleison Bremer to replace Virgil van Dijk?

Virgil van Dijk has been a Liverpool mainstay for many years now, with the defender showing no signs of regression last season. There’s a firm belief that he’s still at his peak and could continue to produce world-class performances for a few more years to come.

However, his contract situation is a bit delicate, given that he has entered the final year of his deal at Anfield. Reports back in June indicated Liverpool had no interest in selling him and might agree on new terms to keep the core of the team intact, although this story claims Van Dijk is ready to quit the club imminently.

Meanwhile, they have earmarked Manchester United target Gleison Bremer as the ideal candidate to replace the Dutchman. Juventus wants €70 million to sell one of their key performers over the last two years, and he might be able to take the following steps to further his career.

At 27, he still has his best years as a defender ahead, meaning he could be a solid asset for any club that signs him. Liverpool are indeed interested in Bremer, although there are some doubts about whether they are angling a move for him as a replacement for Van Dijk.

Liverpool are targeting a new central defender

Bremer can play either side of central defence, and hence, it makes sense for him to be seen as a replacement for Van Dijk. However, Arne Slot might target a specific left-footer to come in as a cover for the Dutchman, with Goncalo Inacio considered a big target by the Dutch manager.

Hence, they are angling for a right-footer. For example, Bremer could come in as an additional defender to add massive depth in quality at the back. Liverpool fans hope that Van Dijk will continue here, and that may be the case regardless of whether Bremer arrives or not.
