Jhon Duran on the verge of joining West Ham United

Jhon Duran is reportedly closing in on joining West Ham United from Aston Villa in a deal worth £37 million in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Area Napoli, Jhon Duran has been the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Colombian international has also been a target for Chelsea in the summer transfer window. However, the Hammers have beaten their fellow London club to the Aston Villa striker, with the youngster moving to the London Stadium in a deal worth £37 million.

Jhon Duran and his Aston Villa rollercoaster ride

Jhon Duran has blown hot and cold since joining Aston Villa from Chicago Fire in January 2023. The South American striker was the talk of the town in the transfer market due to his exploits for the Major League Soccer outfit. However, he has not made enough progress in the last 18 months at Villa Park.

The 20-year-old has found the back of the net only eight times in 49 appearances thus far for Aston Villa. So, it is hardly surprising that Duran faces an uncertain future at Villa Park in the summer transfer window, with Chelsea and West Ham United vying for his signature.

A man in demand

Chelsea had once been on the verge of securing Jhon Duran’s services, with talks between the West London club and Aston Villa progressing smoothly in June. However, the Colombian international striker’s wage demands put the move on hold, allowing other suitors to emerge in the battle against Chelsea.

The Blues recently held talks to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa. However, Chelsea will not land the young Aston Villa striker, with West Ham United winning the race to secure his services in a deal worth £37 million.

West Ham United’s interest in the 20-year-old South American attacker is understandable. Michail Antonio is approaching the twilight of his career, while Danny Ings has barely made his mark for the East London club. So, it behoved West Ham to sign a young striker in the summer transfer window, with Duran emerging as a target.

The Hammers have now won the race to sign the Aston Villa striker, with a deal worth £37 million set to see the light of day. As for Chelsea, they must set their sights elsewhere to bolster their attack this summer.
