Manchester United are considering signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte on loan rather than pursuing a permanent deal.
According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Manchester United are interested in the services of Manuel Ugarte as they look to reinforce their midfield ahead of next season. While they were in talks over a permanent deal, the Red Devils could now target a loan move for the Paris-Saint Germain star.
Ugarte’s time at PSG
Manuel Ugarte made a name for himself at Sporting CP before joining PSG last summer. In his debut campaign with the French giants, the defensive midfielder was involved in 37 matches and even bagged three assists.
While he did have a great start to live in Paris, things did go downhill in the second half of the season. The Uruguayan international did not start any of their Champions League knockout games. While he is currently enjoying his holidays following an impressive Copa America campaign, Ugarte’s future has become a big talking point amidst interest from Manchester United.
Manchester United keen on Manuel Ugarte
The Red Devils have already done some great business in this transfer window. They have completed the signing of Joshua Zirkzee and are on the verge of signing Leny Yoro. Manchester United also want to bring in a new defensive midfielder who can replace Casemiro.
They want someone who can form a great partnership with teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo for the long run, and Manuel Ugarte has been on their wishlist for some time now. While Manchester United were earlier looking to sign him on a permanent basis and were hopeful of getting a deal over than line for not more than £45 million, they are now looking to sign him on a season-long loan.
Manchester United prefer a loan deal
The Red Devils are open to the idea of having an option/obligation clause in the deal. They are aware that negotiating a temporary move could fast-track the process of his signing and ensure that Manuel Ugarte joins them before the new season kick-starts.
A loan deal will allow them to use their resources to strengthen other areas on the pitch helping Erik ten Hag bounce back next season. While United are keen on signing him, PSG are under no pressure to let him leave with the player’s contract running until 2028.
Manchester United might have been patient in their pursuit and if PSG insist that they will only consider a permanent move, Ten Hag’s team will have to oversee a few departures to have sufficient funds. But, with the player keen on making the move to Old Trafford, the Red Devils remain confident about striking a deal.
